Alaïa Mesh Mary Jane Dupe: $29 vs $890
Okay hear me out. I know mesh flats sound like a trend you'll wear twice and then shove in the back of your closet. But when the Alaïa fishnet flats hit every single fashion feed this spring, I started getting curious. Problem is, I am not spending almost a thousand dollars on a shoe I can technically see my toes through.
I found the dupe at Target. Obviously. The A New Day mesh ballet flats are $29.99 and they give the exact same expensive, "I summer in Europe" vibe.
THE SPLURGE: Alaïa Fishnet Mary Jane Flats, $890
THE STEAL: Target A New Day Mesh Ballet Flats, $29.99
Where they differ: The Target ones have a slightly softer mesh that doesn't hold the rigid shape of the Alaïas quite as well, and the buckle is a basic silver tone instead of that heavy designer hardware.
Where they're identical: The silhouette, the almond toe shape, and the fact that they instantly make a pair of baggy jeans look intentional and styled.
Is It Worth It?
Honestly? The dupe is 100% worth it. You're paying $860 extra for a logo on the sole and slightly thicker mesh. For a trend piece like this? The $30 option is a no-brainer. I've worn them twice this week and someone literally asked if they were the Alaïas.
How I'm Styling Them
Here's how I'd style the dupe to make it look even more expensive:
- With oversized, puddle-hem vintage Levi's and a crisp oversized white button-down.
- With a black slip skirt and a chunky oversized sweater for that transition weather.
- Do NOT wear them with socks. Just don't. Let the mesh do its thing.
