Three people stopped me at Target today (I was literally there buying laundry detergent) to ask about my outfit.

When I told the cashier the whole thing was under $100, she actually made me write down the links for her. I love my job.

Here's the whole breakdown:

  • High-Waisted Wide-Leg Trousers: Zara, $39.90 — These drape like expensive wool. I’m wearing the beige.
  • Ribbed Tank Top: Target A New Day, $8 — The best $8 you will ever spend. I own it in four colors.
  • Oversized Poplin Shirt: Goodwill, $6 — Men's section, blue striped, worn open as a light layer. A classic.
  • Slide Sandals: Target A New Day, $24.99 — Tan. These look basically identical to a $150 pair I saw on Revolve.
  • Chunky Gold Hoops: Amazon, $12.99 — My everyday go-to.

TOTAL: $91.88

The Styling Secret

The trick here is the oversized button-down worn open over the fitted tank. That proportion play—tight underneath, loose and flowing on top—is what takes this from "just clothes" to an outfit. Plus, a structured trouser automatically elevates whatever you pair it with. It makes an $8 tank top look like a $40 tank top. That's what good pants do.

Swap Options

Don't love the slides? Try a clean white sneaker or a pointed-toe mule for the office. Prefer to skip the thrift store? You can grab a similar oversized poplin shirt from H&M for about $25.

Body Type Notes

This silhouette works great for pear and hourglass shapes because the wide-leg trousers balance out the hips while the fitted tank highlights your waist. If you're petite, try a slightly cropped button-down instead of an oversized one so it doesn't swallow you up!
